The words of the prayer

Plain English only: no traditional English wording is given for this prayer

Master, Lover of mankind, Lord Jesus Christ our God,long-suffering and rich in mercy:great is Your mercy, and Your compassion is beyond words.Your love embraces all,and nothing is impossible for You, if only You will it.

For You said, Lord,“Let the children come to Me,for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these.”You raised the daughter of Jairus from her deathbed, and when a royal official whose son lay sick in Capernaumcame to You in hope, You told him,“Go, your son will live.”

So we, sinful and unworthy, run to Youand fall down before You in repentance. We pray to You for children, infants and young peoplewho are ill and suffer cruelly from grave illnesses.Do not turn them away as they come to Youand look to You for mercy, but raise them from their sickbedwhole and completely well.

Look also, O God, on the parents of the sick children.Heal their grieving hearts with Your divine words.Strengthen those who are losing heart, lift up those who have fallen into despair, and fill them with faith, hope and trust in Your mercy.

For Yours it is to have mercy on us and to save us, O our God,and to You we give glory, and to Your Father, Who is without beginning, and to Your all-holy, good and life-giving Spirit, now and ever, and for ever and ever. Amen.

When it is said

A priest says it near the end of a short service of prayer called a moleben, held for the healing of gravely ill children and for their parents.

A parent might also pray it at home or at a hospital bedside.

Where it comes from

No author known

A prayer the Church approved in 2025

The Holy Synod of the Russian Orthodox Church approved this service on 30 October 2025, and no author is named. The priest may say a second prayer instead, which asks Christ to remember how He called the little children to Himself. He may also add a prayer to the Mother of God before her icon called the Healer.

A day of prayer on 1 October

Archpriest Alexander Tkachenko asked Patriarch Kirill for prayers for gravely ill children and their parents every year on 1 October. He leads the Circle of Kindness foundation, and the Patriarch supported his idea. On 1 October 2026 churches across Russia held special services of prayer for the healing of these children and for their parents, with the Patriarch’s blessing.

The Scripture in it

But when Jesus saw this, He was indignant and told them, “Let the little children come to Me, and do not hinder them! For the kingdom of God belongs to such as these.”

Mark 10:14 Quoted Christ tells His disciples to let the children come to Him.

Taking her by the hand, Jesus said, “Talitha koum!” which means, “Little girl, I say to you, get up!” Immediately the girl got up and began to walk around (she was twelve years old). And at once they were utterly astounded.

Mark 5:41-42 Echoed Christ raises the daughter of Jairus from her deathbed.

“Go,” said Jesus. “Your son will live.” The man took Jesus at His word and departed.

John 4:50 Quoted “Go, your son will live,” said to the official whose son lay sick.
